I am a yoga teacher, teacher trainer, Integrative Yoga Therapist and Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga Facilitator (TCTSY-F) and have been offering therapeutic yoga to people who have a history of trauma and/or mental health issues since 2004.
I am the Director of Programs at Yoga Outreach, a non profit organization which partners with healthcare, social service and prison staff and trained yoga teachers to provide trauma-informed yoga programming to adults and youth facing challenges with mental health, addiction, poverty, violence, trauma, and imprisonment. We offer trainings both for yoga teachers and healthcare and support workers and work in partnership with clinical and support staff to create programs that are trauma-informed, strengths-based, accessible and relevant for the people we serve.
Since 2004 I’ve facilitated yoga programs in settings including yoga studios, prisons, detox facilities, mental health facilities, corporate boardrooms, women’s transition houses, mothers’ support groups and more.
I am a faculty member at Ajna Yoga and a guest instructor at Langara Continuing Studies and hold certifications in Functional Yoga Therapy™ and restorative yoga. I have also completed trainings in Pain Care Yoga and am interested in yoga as a path to recovery from both emotional and physical pain.
My practice as a yoga teacher & therapist is also informed by my own embodied experience as a survivor and exploring the cultivation of balance in the wake of trauma through lived experience. I am also a mother of 2 small children and offer workshops tailored specifically for mothers.
I believe a yoga practice should be accessible, sustainable, and bring greater ease, joy and resilience in everyday life. I teach public classes at Ajna Yoga in Victoria, BC.
